Holistic-Homemaker

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog!

My name is Jeannette Elizabeth and I am the, self-coined, HolisticHomemaker. Everyone was always calling me Little Suzie Homemaker, and after a while I was beginning to think I was! Though when I was studying to become an RHN (Registered Holistic Nutritionist) I realized just how flawed my homemaking was!

My windows were cleaned with chemical sprays, my cooking was filled with refined nutrient-depleted ingredients and while my heart was in my work, it was filled with: worry, envy and trivial desires.  I was more concerned with keeping up with the Joneses than where my food came from. At first I was overwhelmed by all that things I was learning but after awhile it was all the things I didn't know that worried me more!

Initially I wanted to do nutritional consultations (and I still do!) as the school I attended really geared us towards them. But what I learned is that there are many variables involved... making it almost impossible for anyone (no matter how qualified they are) to know just what kind of nutrition you're getting. You can only do so much until it's up to the bigger picture and all those unanswered questions...

Are you getting a balanced amount of all the right foods?
What nutritional value does your food hold?
Have the soils been depleted of nutrients?
Are the seeds contaminated by genetic modification?
Have the produce been sprayed with herbicides and pesticides?
What kind of chemicals are we exposing ourselves to?
What kind of world are we leaving for generations to come?
What is our eco footprint like?
What is the greater cost of consumerism?
How are the animals being treated?
Who are we becoming as a people?
What do we believe in?
What kind of lives are we living?
What kind of world are we leaving for further generations?

I don't know the answers to these questions but I want to, need to, do everything I can do to find out more... to find the truth!
